Golden West Radio recently made another significant contribution to the local live music scene. Station Manager Cameron Birnie presented Matthew Warren of the City of Weyburn with a cheque for $2,600 Thursday for the Weyburn Wheat Festival, which will be held August 9 to 11.

“This will be our third or fourth year of receiving it from Golden West Radio, and we're much appreciative of the funding,” said Warren, who is the Director of Leisure Services and Acting City Manager for the City of Weyburn.

"It's a big community event for us,” he said. “Usually in the second week in August we have our big Wheat Festival event, with activities throughout the community, so we usually have live entertainment.”

“So, the funding we receive from this goes towards promoting live, local entertainment,” he explained. “We have regional and local performers that perform at Heritage Village on both the Friday and the Saturday of the Wheat Festival."

"We also have at the Soo Line Museum on the Saturday from 1 to 5, the Family Fun Festival,” he added. “We actually pay for a person coming to do a magic show, we have bouncy houses, and a petting zoo.”

He noted that the City is also holding a local art show and sale, Party on the Hill, at Signal Hill Arts Centre, as well as the Horticultural Society event, both of which are also happening on the Saturday.

“I’m very appreciative of the funding provided by Golden West Radio, and it goes back to a great cause, and everything we do goes right back to the community.”
