The grand opening of a Weyburn Group Homes Society group home is taking place this afternoon. The celebration kicks off with a barbeque at 2:00 p.m., and the program begins at 3:00 p.m. at 137 DeLaet Drive.

Executive Director of the Weyburn Group Home Society, Colin Folk, pointed out the new home has been open since March of 2021, "but due to the pandemic, we couldn't have an official grand opening until today."

He said the home is licensed for three persons with disabilities and it is a fully licensed, Ministry of Social Services Funded home.

"It also is wheelchair accessible, which is very important for our clients' needs, and it's very important because when you're doing personal care for somebody that's in a wheelchair, you need ceiling track lifts and special bathtubs, and this home was fully equipped for that, which was able to meet some of our emerging needs in the Community, for our participants."

Folk noted this is going to be a nice day to celebrate.

"There are some special guests, the honorable Dustin Duncan is coming and also our board chair Steve Schuck, and also Mayor Marcel Roy is coming to attend so and speak.

Education Minister Dustin Duncan will be celebrating the grand opening on behalf of Social Services Minister Gene Makowsky.
