Sask Parks is excited about launching their first Hammock Camping experience in Buffalo Pound Provincial Park. This new idea is a great affordable way to experience a Provincial Park in the province.

Minh Truong, Director of Park Experiences with the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sports shares how  of hammock camping came to be “We always like to try new things within our Parks, hammock camping has come up in the past that people have asked for, so we thought let’s try it this year. We are offering this at Buffalo Pound this year, we will see how it does and if it does really well, we will look to expand it across the Provincial Park system.”

A new opportunity to hang out amongst the trees can be a great option for larger crowds. Truong says, “The hammock camping experience has a Weaver structure that can accommodate up to 6 hammocks. It’s great for families and groups of friends that want to try something new. You can your own hammock and hang it within the weaver structure or if you don’t have one you can rent one for $10 right at the Provincial Park.”

It’s no secret that Saskatchewan has a few elements to deal with like wind and bugs. Truong suggests planning ahead with your hammock “we know in Saskatchewan that mosquitoes are popular, so a zip-in hammock is a great option to keep the bugs out.” Aside from the bugs, the experience is like no other, Truong explains “you’re literally sleeping under the stars when you are hammock camping”

If you’re interested in reserving hammock camping at the Elmview Campground in Buffalo Pound, it’s $50 per night and online reservation begins Monday, April 25th at 7:00 am with Sask Parks
