While we do need the heat for crop development, some crops aren't quite mature enough to handle too much heat right now.

Cropping Management Specialist Dale Risula at the Ag Knowledge Centre says the heat can cause stress on the crop with the change in weather conditions.

Risula adds the fluctuation in weather puts pressure on the root development.

Risula says the time of their growth phase is a little more vulnerable to heat stress than it is at other times, especially canola crops.
