The Weyburn Beavers and Swift Current 57s were ready to go to open the 2022 WCBL season at Tom Laing Park Friday night, but Mother Nature had other plans.

The rain prompted the teams to delay the start of the game, with the tarps put on the field. Then, around 7:30 p.m., half an hour past the scheduled start of the game, the rain had essentially stopped.

The tarps were moved, and the players started to warm up with a goal of getting underway by 8:00 p.m. Then, the rain returned.

A conference between the coaches, as well as the team officials and umpires, resulted in the game being postponed.

The two teams will now play a doubleheader at Tom Laing Park Saturday night. Under WCBL rules, doubleheaders are seven-inning games. The first game will start at 6:00 p.m., and the second game shortly after the first is concluded.
