A playoff atmosphere at Crescent Point Place on Friday night saw the Weyburn Red Wings come away with a 4–3 overtime win over the Estevan Bruins.

It was sweet revenge for Weyburn who has just two wins in nine tries against their Highway 39 rivals this season. A great team effort has fans wondering, where has this been all season? The Red Wings battled from behind, controlled the play, had a physical edge, blocked shots and didn't back down from the Viterra division leaders.

When it was all said and done, Ben Hiltz buried a breakaway goal in overtime to send the packed house into a frenzy. It was a wild 3-on-3 overtime session that ended with the Red Wings picking up their third consecutive victory.

It didn't start as pleasantly as it ended, as the Bruins grabbed a 1–0 lead just 66 seconds into the game. Instead of rolling over, the Wings fought back and tied the game on Hiltz's first of the night. He deflected a Cason Scheschuk point shot past the goalie and in for his 21st goal of the year.

Just 16 seconds later, the line of Dawson McKenzie, Drew Anderson and Jacob Piller gave the Wings their first lead of the night. The second line had another terrific game and Anderson banged home a loose puck in front to make it 2–1. Estevan got one back a few minutes later, and the game was even through 20 minutes.

After some great chances at both ends, a great forecheck by the aforementioned line eventually led to McKenzie feeding Piller in tight where he potted his 8th of the year and gives him goals in back-to-back games. That would be the only goal of the middle period and it looked like it would stand as the game-winner.

Estevan poured it on in the third period, but the Wings defence and goaltender Cody Levesque stood tall for 19:13, until Will Koop scored to tie the game at three. The Bruins had a brief 6-on-4 powerplay with the net empty late. Koop's second of the night forced the thrilling extra session of hockey.

A big storyline in the game was the lackluster officiating. When both teams are upset at the end of the night, it was probably a tough night for the zebras. Weyburn has a case as they had zero powerplay opportunites. That's right, the Bruins are by far the most penalized team in the SJHL and they didn't take a single penalty all game.

Estevan meanwhile had a gripe at the end of the game as they claimed Hiltz was offside on the winning goal. Either way, it was a huge two points for the Red Wings.

After Melville was also victorious on the final Friday of the regular season, the win kept Weyburn tied in points with the Mils and thus still technically in 10th place. Rivalry weekend in the SJHL continues tonight, with the Red Wings and Bruins renewing hostilities in Estevan.
