Earlier this week, we reported the Weyburn Humane Society was over capacity with cats, as the number of cats being dropped off or surrendered far exceeded the number of cats being adopted. Now, another issue is affecting the feline population.

“Right now, we have an upper respiratory virus going through all the cats, which is making them very sick with the eyes, and the sneezing, so we felt it best to just close the shelter for the next six days, at the least,” explained Colleen Morrice, the shelter manager.

They are administering antibiotics for the cats to help deal with the infections.

Morrice stated that while the shelter is closed due to the virus amongst the cat population, they will not be able to accept any animals at this time. As for adoptions, cats cannot be adopted until the outbreak is cleared up. Those who wish to adopt a dog, they can do so by arranging an appointment with the Humane Society.
