Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz, along with representatives from the Canadian Wheat Board and the Grain Growers of Canada met with U.S. grain industry officials in Washington.

Grain Growers Executive Director Richard Phillips says they discussed importing and exporting of grain in a post-single desk market.

"The U.S Millers were there just wondering how things were going to work moving forward, will they be buying from the Wheat Board private sector re-strictly, how is grain going to be going down there and likewise if there was a U.S. growers who wanted to make contracts and sell those for a type of wheat to Canadian flour mills, if grain is going to go one way it is probably going to go both ways here."

He says there are opportunities in moving toward a more uniform classification and grading system.

Phillips notes these were only preliminary discussions.
