It looks as though we are getting the message when it comes to recycling in Weyburn.  According to numbers from the Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop, nearly seven million containers went through the Sarcan Depot in 2009, that's an increase of over 500,000 from the previous year. Also last year, nearly 14,000 litres of paint were recycled in Weyburn, with over 1,500 litres of paint being reused.

Andria Brady, Executive Director of the Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop says, "just recently as the end of May, there was the Spring Household Hazardous Waste Day and we are always open in conjunction to that just to accept paints and electronics. The amount that came in during those six hours was staggering compared to last year and I'm sure in the Fall, it will be another busy day."

Brady says, since they changed their hours to Monday to Friday from 8:00am-6:00pm, feedback around the community had been positive. She says with all the containers here in Weyburn, looking at a new building is something they are looking at. "One of our long term goals is for a new facility. We recognize our Sarcan Depot is fast running out of space and as the programs continue to expand, space is at a premium. That is a long term goal of ours is to have a new space of some kind that can house all of our operations."
