Still behind average. This year's harvest is slowly progressing throughout the province with cool, wet conditions in the Southeast slowing progress over the past week.

According to Grant McLean, Cropping Management Specialist, "in the Southeast, there was areas reported all rain. Anywhere from six millimetres to 60 millimetres. I think the Redvers area reported around 60 millimetres and in the Weyburn area it was around 34 millimetres, so it was a fairly damp week."

Despite the rains, 90% of hay crops in the province have been cut with 80% bailed or in silage.

McLean says the Southeast is looking better than other arts of the province. "It's normally quite dry and usually we see harvest advancing much further than right now. Province wide, we have less than one per cent of the crop combined and in the Southeast, there is two per cent of the crop combined which is the furthest advanced than any area in the province."

The five year average for this time of year is five per cent combined.

McLean says hot, dry weather is needed to help move this year's harvest along.
