With the play on words, Souris-Moose Mountain MP Dr. Robert Kitchen described the atmosphere for the Conservative Party in Ottawa, after the election of Andrew Scheer as the new leader of the party. Scheer is taking over from Rona Ambrose, who served as the interim leader after Stephen Harper resigned from Parliament after the Conservative Party failed to re-form government after the 2015 federal election.

“It’s exciting,” Kitchen added. “We have a new leader, and now we can move forward on where we go from here.”

Scheer represents the riding of Regina-Qu’Appelle and is the first leader of the Conservative Party from Saskatchewan since John Diefenbaker was the leader of the Progressive Conservatives.

Kitchen explained he feels Scheer will be able to take over from where Stephen Harper left off in terms of his values as a conservative, both economically and socially. The positivity Scheer exudes also helps.

“He’s always smiling, and he’s very quick-witted,” Kitchen said. “He’s very vibrant, and I look forward to working under him.”

Scheer took in his first Question Period as the new leader of the Conservative Party Monday.
