Leon Marcel Leonard was born February 12th, 1923 on the farm at 19-7-22 West of 2nd to Alphonse and Jeanne (nee: Lobe) Leonard who had immigrated to Canada from Belgium.  He cared for all of us in his quiet, simple way.  Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Husband, Brother, Uncle, friend, soldier and farmer, Leon was a man of few words but when those words were spoken, you remembered.  We remember you, Dad for your slow crooked grin and gentle chuckle. Your yearly April Fool's jokes; Grandpa's many groaners; your love for baby potatoes and your words of wisdom.  Many fishing excursions, far and near; parenting tips on discipline and your gentle, caring ways with our children.  Working long hours in the field, especially at harvest and sharing your steak with any of us that woke up at 11 p.m. when we heard you come in.  Insisting on your Mom's "macaroni and cheese" dish at every family gathering, liquorice all-sorts, and sardines straight from the can!  How you fixed things, mechanical and electrical, woodwork, whistling, playing the harmonica and accordian, old tyme dances and card games at Mt. Joy school, square dancing at Glasnevin, letting us win at checkers and spending time with the family.  Participating in the Remembrance Day ceremonies and helping us with our Remembrance Day assignments.  Friendship with your nephew, Johnny Owen, attending our Christmas programs, Baptisms, Graduations, Weddings, etc.  Building bird houses with feeding stations, and being concerned about their well-being.  How you valued learning by giving money for good report cards.  Since Dad shared with us at Christmas that his days were numbered, we reassured him that we'd walk alongside him one step at a time... one day at a time.  We have three desires; 1. to hear his chuckle; 2. to play a game of cribbage with him; 3. to listen to him whistle, which we believe he is doing right now.
