Demolition has begun on Haig School, after being closed for nearly a year.

South East Cornerstone Public School Division did post the building for sale but had no buyers.

“We waited for a period of time, and then we applied for Emergent Funding to take the building down,” said Director of Education Lynn Little. “Tenders were then put out following the approved process and we're in the process as of yesterday afternoon, to actually bring Haig School down.”

Little said it is hard to see this landmark come down.

“It has served the community, children, and their families well for many, many years. However, it was past its useful life and so that building will come down, and then the property will be cleared.”

Once the property is cleared the land will be posted for sale.
