A man was arrested for public intoxication after a midday disturbance in downtown Weyburn last week.

The Weyburn Police Service said they responded to the report of an intoxicated man causing a disturbance in public, as he was yelling at other people as they walked by.

"Officers attended, and tried to speak to the individual," Deputy Police Chief Brent VanDeSype said. "They discovered that he had open alcohol, and he attempted to make a run, but the police located him shortly thereafter."

The man was arrested for being drunk in public, as well as charged under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act for unlawfully possessing alcohol in public.

"As officers, we deal with intoxicated persons quite regularly, but in the middle of the afternoon, causing a disturbance in public is not a common occurrence in Weyburn."

He was lodged for the evening and released the next day.
