The Western Hockey League announced on Tuesday Weyburn's Quinn Mantei was named the recipient of the Doc Seaman Memorial Trophy as the WHL Scholastic Player of the Year.

The Brandon Wheat Kings defenseman was awarded the trophy for the 2022-23 season.

18-year-old Mantei recorded an overall average of 96 percent in his core subjects.

The 6-foot, 178-pound scholar not only succeeded in the classroom but on the ice as well,  including having a plus ten rating and collecting 25 points in his sophomore season in 67 games.

Mantei has even caught the eye of NHL scouts, earning himself a place on the North American rankings from the NHL Central Scouting Service.
