They had brooms, They had shovels, They had a skid steer.
And they had community spirit.
Dozens of people hit Weyburn's downtown city streets on Saturday, participating in the Mayor's annual cleanup.
"There's a lot of good community spirit here." said Mayor Marcel Roy, as he shovelled dirt from the Royal Hotel parking lot. "I constantly hear people from out of town say what a wonderfully clean city Weyburn is, and we just want to keep that going."
The annual cleanup has become a Weyburn spring tradition, having sprung from an annual competition that used to exist with the City of Estevan, called the Golden Garbage Can.
Saturday's workers included members of city council, public works personnel, the fire department, and other volunteers.
"Volunteers come together and we just try to clean up downtown, and things like that." said Fire Chief, Simon Almond. "We get ready for our summer
season, our car show, and oil show, and things like that. The mayor expressed his gratitude to everyone who helped out. "Just thank everybody for helping out here today. It was really great to see such good participation here." said Roy.
