Bad news for farmers in the Southeast...its Midge season.

According to Insect Specialist Scott Hartley, this week will be a key time for producers to be outside scouting for wheat midge.

Hartley says the wheat midge has been a little slow in developing because of the cooler temperatures.

Hartley says they are starting to get reports of wheat midge emerging from the soil.

Hartley adding the first midge coming up will be males and within the next few days, we will start to see the majority of midge emerging.

Midge can be controlled by insecticides if caught in time.

Hartley reminding all producers to start scouting and estimating what the levels are as soon as possible.
