It was a busy weekend for Weyburn Minor Hockey teams. In addition to a number of players off the male U15 SaskFirst Tournament, there were games for all the AA and AAA Gold Wing teams. 

Starting with the U18 AA Aaron Well Servicing Gold Wings, they were at home in Midale for two games this past weekend. In the first game, Friday night, they would score early and often, en route to a 9-1 victory over the North East Aces.  

Katelyn Thackeray would finish the game with a goal and three assists, while Nostun Runge, Megan Reif and Hada Naviaux had a pair of goals each in the victory. Also scoring for the Gold Wings were Alex Reid and Brooke McKinnon. 

Saturday, the U18 AA Gold Wings played the Saskatoon Comet Legends. The Gold Wings would take the lead in the second period and hold on for a 2-1 victory. Charlotte Kosior and Mazey Hillrud had the goals for the Gold Wings in the win.  

The two games closed out the regular season for the Gold Wings, who finished second in the South Division of the SaskFHL with a record of 16-6-2. They will be taking on the Swift Current Wildcats in the playoffs. The dates for their best-of-three series have yet to be determined.

The U15 AA Whitecap Resources Gold Wings were at home for two games against the Swift Current Wildcats on the weekend. The Gold Wings were looking to pick up a pair of wins to move ahead in the standings heading into the postseason.  

In the game Saturday afternoon, the Wildcats would come out with three power-play goals and held on to top the Gold Wings 5-3. Ella Schenher, Emma Holzer and Reegan Chicoine all scored for the Gold Wings in the loss, with Kamryn Kish also chipping in a pair of assists.  

Sunday, the Gold Wings would come roaring back with three power-play goals of their own on the way to a 6-2 win.  

In the win Sunday, Schenher added a goal and two assists, while Adison Warren scored two goals and added an assist. Other goals for the Gold Wings came from Julia Durr, Tyra Kmita and Samara Seghers.  

With the regular season now wrapped up, the U15 AA Gold Wings will be off to Saskatoon for game one of their playoff series with the Saskatoon Comet Impact. The game is scheduled for Saturday afternoon. Game two will be March 2nd at Crescent Point Place with game three, if necessary, scheduled for March 5th back in Saskatoon.

The U13AA Young Fellow Gold Wings getting a preview of their first-round playoff opponents on the weekend, as they travelled to Swift Current to take on the Wildcats for a pair of games. Swift Current, though, would end up coming out on top in both of the close games.  

The first game, Saturday evening, saw the Wildcats hold off the Gold Wings for a 3-1 victory. The lone goal for the Gold Wings was scored by Alexis Bauman.  

Then Sunday, the Wildcats would again edge out the Gold Wings, this time by a final score of 2-1. The goal for Weyburn was scored by Gillian Meszaros.  

The Gold Wings will now get set to face the Wildcats in their best-of-three playoff series. The first game is scheduled for Sunday in Swift Current on March 5th. Game two of the series will be played on March 11th in Weyburn, and game three, if necessary, will be on the 12th back in Swift Current.

Four members of the U15 AA Annugas Wings were off in Balgonie for the SaskFirst U15 Top 80 tournament on the weekend. The Wings were represented by Evan Aasland-Guest, Aidan Mohan, Kaleb Sheasby and Wade Franks.  

Sheasby would be the one coming back with some bragging rights, as his team, Team Black, took the A Final by a score of 8-5. They beat Team Green, which included Aasland-Guest and Mohan.  

In the B Final, Team Gold, which included Franks, fell 3-2 to Team Red.
