The husband of the Regina woman who was charged with human smuggling in April, is now facing similar charges himself.

Victor Omoruyi was arrested in the United States in April, in relation to an incident which say nine Nigerian citizens intercepted while attempting to cross the border into Canada near North Portal. At the same time, Michelle Omoruyi, his wife, was arrested, and charged with human smuggling.

Omoruyi plead guilty to charges in the United States, and was sentenced to six months in jail. He was released yesterday, and deported back to Canada, He was arrested by Canadian authorities when he arrived in Saskatoon.

He made a brief court appearance, and was released on bail, with conditions. He is scheduled to be back in Estevan Provincial Court on December 4th. His wife’s case is still before the courts.
