A mix of wind gusts that are expected to reach 70 kph and snowfall led to Environment Canada issuing a blowing-snow advisory for much of southern Saskatchewan.

The advisory covers the southern part of the province from the Alberta border east to Estevan.

"Northwesterly winds gusting up to 70 km/h have developed in southern Saskatchewan overnight as a low-pressure system tracks through the province," said the advisory. "These winds combined with fresh falling snow will produce reduced visibilities in blowing snow today."

Environment Canada's threshold for issuing blowing snow advisories is when visibility will be limited to 800 metres of less for at least three hours.

"Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve."

The far southeastern corner of the province, from Bienfait east, did not have any advisories in effect as of 5:25 a.m.
