Souris-Moose Mountain MP Ed Komarnicki

Ed Komarnicki, MP for Souris-Moose Mountain, is reviewing some of the country's biggest changes in 2011 and how it relates to Southeast Saskatchewan.

He says it was a productive year in the House of Commons once the Conservatives had won a majority government. Some important bills that passed that he noted were Bill C-18 to end the Canadian Wheat Board, the "Tough on Crime" agenda and the abolition of the long gun registry, which will pass in the spring session, according to Komarnicki.

Sitting in the House resumes on January 30 and Komarnicki says that the focus will be on the economy and growing jobs.

"I know in this part of the country, in Western Canada and Saskatchewan, there's been some significant difficulty in getting skilled labourers or temporary foreign workers and going through a process that's been somewhat complex," says Komarnicki. "I know many are looking to us to ensure that they can have the skilled trades that we need to grow our country and that will be our focus as well."

Komarnicki says the province continues to see growth enhanced by the natural resources sector.

"In fact, many project Saskatchewan as leading the nation in real GDP growth in 2012."
