After the Red Wings had one heck of a game in La Ronge that saw lucky luck favour the other team, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings got a tough loss against an older, more experienced Melfort Mustangs squad 4-0 where the Wings looked tired on the fourth game in five nights.

The Red Wings did not start great, and there is not a ton of things to mention for the Wings offensively. Near eight minutes in, the Red Wings had a chance on the power play, but the first 1:30 went by and the Wings had not managed a second of possession in the offensive zone. The final thirty seconds, they had a couple chances, but nothing went through.

After generating some momentum on the power play, the Mustangs were able to put one in off a weird play. Defenseman Vaclav Prospal took the shot that hit Douglas Wakelyn, and popped out to his right. Kenzie Arnold was in tight to the net and smacked it at the net, and it snuck into the crease and Tian Rask tapped the puck into the open net with four minutes left in the period.

A minute and a second later, the Mustangs were back on the board when Ben Tkachuk brought the puck down the right side of the ice. He crossed the blue line and cut slightly towards the middle, and fired the puck wide side, under the blocker and Wakelyn was able to make it a two score game before the end of the first.

After 1: Weyburn 0 - 2 Melfort, shots 16-2

The second period was still not a great one for the Red Wings. They managed just five shots the entire period, which was not much better than the period before. There just was not the same jump throughout this game that they had in the game the night before.

The one big hit the Red Wings had came from Braden Birnie. He was on the forecheck and managed to lay a big hit behind the net on Vaclav Prospal. The Mustangs defender came around the net from the left side corner, and Birnie met him on the other side with a picture perfect shoulder to the chest.

The Mustangs scored later in the period once more thanks to Tian Rask, and again on a weird play. Kyle Bosch took a shot from the left side of the ice up high, and Kenzie Arnold got a tip on the puck, letting it drop down to the ice. Tian Rask was there for it, and he tapped it in once more at almost exactly the same time as the first period.

After 2: Weyburn 0 - 3 Melfort, shots 29-7 Melfort

The third period started bad for the Wings. Fifteen seconds in, Tian Rask came down the puck down the left side of the ice once more on a 2-on-1 after the Wings had a breakdown at their own blue line. Rask sent the puck from the right side to left, and defence man Alex Rondeau came down the right side of the ice to tip the puck in.

After that, the Red Wings started to pick up the play a little bit. The Wings doubled their shot totals in the third period with eight, but still were not able to get another chance that couldn’t get one though. The Mustangs slowly wore them down until the game ended with a 15 shot shutout.

FINAL: Weyburn 0 - 4 Melfort, shots 41-15
