The newest COVID-19 update from the province shows that new cases and the test positivity rate both dropped since the last report.

The latest report was released Thursday afternoon and covers the week of March 6-12.

It showed that there were 832 new confirmed cases, which is only about 0.7 per cent per 1,000 people. There were 1,013 new confirmed cases the previous week.

The weekly test positivity rate was 11.8 per cent. About one in nine lab tests were positive. The test positivity rate for the previous week was 12.7 per cent.

One stat that did spike was the death count. COVID-19 related deaths more than doubled from the previous week, from 13 to 28.

The province also said there were 10 confirmed COVID-19 outbreaks in long-term care facilities.

As of March 12, 85.6 per cent of the population aged five and older had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 80.5 per cent had received two doses. Of the population aged 18 and older, 51 per cent had received a booster shot.

The Omicron variant remains the dominant variant in Saskatchewan, at 99.7 per cent of cases.
