Despite arguing for years that it could not survive without the single desk, the Canadian Wheat Board is actively trying to let growers know it plans on being a viable marketing option into the future.

"Most if not all people do understand what i'm just saying that the mandate is different, but there is a new mandate. New mandate in a new market creates opportunities for us." explains Gord Flaten Vice President of Marketing.

He says past discussion about the CWB surviving without the single desk did not take into account the significant capital base, financial guarantees and general level of support from the federal government that the new CWB is starting with.
