With the sun shining down, the seasonal campers at Nickle Lake took advantage of the day Sunday to come out and set up their sites for the year.

One of those who came out was Heather Manko and her family. They were getting set up on the hill on the east side of the campground, in a site they have had for a number of years.

Manko said the rain that the region has received so far this month didn’t leave them with much of a mess.

“Not for us up here, we’re always lucky on the hill,” Manko related to Discover Weyburn. “I think down below they may be a little wet, but it dries up quickly.”

The rain has helped bring the levels of Nickle Lake up, however a popular attraction once the weather gets a bit warmer, as does the water, isn’t as big as it has been. The beach is currently a fraction of the usual size thanks to the rains received in the Weyburn area.

As for the camping, getting set up to spend much of the summer at the campground is something that Manko and her family look forward to.

“It’s fantastic,” Manko said. “We wait all year to come up here, and it brings us such peace and enjoyment all the time.”

As for what she is looking forward to this summer, Manko added she is looking forward to spending time with family and friends, and just being able to enjoy the outdoors.
