For many years, companies could plan to attend a show put on by the local Humane Society for their Christmas party, while supporting a worthy cause.

However, the Weyburn Humane Society has recently announced the cancellation of their Magic Show, "Curt is Magic”, which was scheduled for November 26th at McKenna Hall.

"COVID really did a number on a lot of non-profit organizations trying to raise funds, and we weren't able to hold our annual event that we do around Christmastime for the public to have Christmas parties and whatnot, and unfortunately this year, with everybody trying to get back into the swing of things, there were just too many things going on in the same weekend, and we didn't realize that when we first booked. So just due to low ticket sales, we really had no choice but to cancel at this time," explained Fundraising Chair Karie Ruckaber.

"We can't get further down the line and cancel then, just giving people an opportunity to maybe do something else for their Christmas parties."

She said the WHS Board of Directors in 2020 decided to change up their entertainment from the comedians and the 'Raise the Woof' parties.

"There's just so many different groups in the community doing their fundraisers so it's hard to compete, but at the same time, I'm glad to see that other organizations are getting support from the community, too."

Ruckaber said donations are always welcome at any time of the year.

"Monetary donations to help run the day-to-day operations," she noted. "I know everybody wants to help us get to where we can have a new building, a new facility, but I'd like to remind everybody that we do need to fundraise for day-to-day operations, which this event was supposed to be."

"We've got different ways to make donations to the shelter. Whether it be monetary or supplies."

She said they're always needing treats, litter, food, and cleaning supplies.

"Colleen, our Shelter Manager, when there is a need for something specific, she will post like it. Every once in a while you'll see that we need bleach and garbage bags, or sometimes we need kitten formula or puppy food. When there is something specific, we'll definitely list it."

She thanked those who did purchase tickets, adding they will each be getting a full refund.
