Nominations have opened up for the Saskatchewan Oil and Gas Show Awards, namely the Southeast Oil Person of the Year and the Southeast Saskatchewan Legends Awards.

Monica Osborn, Show Manager with the Weyburn Oil Show Board, said that the award ceremony will be held at the next Saskatchewan Oil and Gas show, which is going to be on June 5th, 2024. "So in preparation for that," she said, "We've opened up our nomination categories for the two awards."

Osborn explained more about the requirements for the awards.

"The Southeast Oil Person of the Year will be presented to an individual who has been recognized as making a significant contribution to the growth and success of the industry in Southeast Saskatchewan. We do prefer that the candidate is based in Southeast Saskatchewan and that will be awarded to one individual."

"The Southeast Saskatchewan Legends Award is going to recognize individuals who have contributed significantly to the industry associations and communities in Southeast Saskatchewan over the duration of their career, so this past year we did give away a few of those awards."

Osborn added that, "It's kind of like a little bit of a Hall of Fame to recognize those individuals."  Winners for the Southeast Saskatchewan Legends Award from last year included Ken Lee, Ron Carson, Norm "Pierre" Mondor, Ray Frehlick and Vi Day.

Nominations will close on Tuesday, October 31st, 2023, "In order to go through a nomination process and contact the award winners and get bios and that kind of stuff for the next show, so that we can start promoting the next show," Osborn said.
