Nominations are open for the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Medal, a way to recognize 7,000 outstanding Saskatchewanians of all ages.

The medal was created to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s accession to the throne.

The Government of Saskatchewan partnered with several organizations, and municipalities, including the City of Weyburn to ensure a wide distribution of medals across the province.

“The Government of Saskatchewan reached out to all municipalities requesting who would like to partner,” said City Manager, Matthew Warren. “The City of Weyburn was more than happy to partner to promote this really significant medal to our residents.”

Eligible recipients of the medal must be a resident of Saskatchewan, have made a contribution to Canada, Saskatchewan, or a particular region or community, and were alive on February 6, 2022, the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s accession to the throne.

“They want to make this eligibility really open to anyone, and they have made this quite broad, which is very inclusive.”

Warren said the City of Weyburn is more than happy to assist the province and promote this initiative.
