A municipal by-election for Weyburn residents is drawing closer, as Weyburn City Council has one council seat open after the resignation of long-time councillor, Dick Michel.

Donette Richter, City Clerk and Returning Officer for the city of Weyburn, said the regular election will be held on May 31st from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Credit Union Spark Centre.

Richter said that they also have two advance polls, which are open for anyone who anticipates that they may not be able to vote on May 31st, or are just unable to attend for whatever reason.

"One advance poll will be on May 25th and one will be on May 27th. The Thursday, May 25th one will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and the Saturday, May 27th one will be from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. They will both be held at the Credit Union Spark Centre as well."

"As far as the mail-in ballots process goes, the process is ongoing right now. If you wish to receive a mail-in ballot, you can make application. You can either come to city hall or you can go to the city website on the election tab and request the registration package, and then I should be getting the ballots in the next few days."

Richter said she will then be able to send out ballots to all of those people that have registered. "The deadline for electronic applications for mail-ins is May 19th, and you can actually come into city hall and apply for a mail-in ballot right up to 4:00 p.m. on May 30th."

Richter added that there is one council seat open, so they are conducting a by-election for one council seat. "There are four people running for that one council seat."

The candidates listed in the order that they will appear on the ballot are as follows: Trevor Tessier, Larry Heggs, Brandon Tichkowsky, and Dana Pretzer.
