The Weyburn Police Service arrested an impaired driver last week following a reported fight at a local drinking establishment.

Sergeant Shane St. John said the person wasn't compliant with basic protocols.

"They did the roadside test and got a fail, and then, back at the station, they refused to proceed further with any investigation. They did not provide any other samples."

St. John poined out that refusing to provide another sample automatically results in a much longer vehicle impoundment than the three days, and they still get the impaired charges anyway.

"You get charged instantly," he said. "You lose your vehicle for 60 days and then the onus on you is to say why did you refuse the test."

This, in addition to the tow fee and the daily impound fees, he noted, on top of the demerit points on their license, adds up to hundreds of dollars.
