A section of 3rd Avenue South in Weyburn was blocked off Friday afternoon by the Weyburn Police Service as a warrant was executed by the Joint Tactical Unit comprised of members from the WPS and the Estevan Police Service. 

“Our drug unit here at the Weyburn Police Service has been working on a drug investigation for the last little bit, and subsequently it came to a head today where we executed a search warrant at a location on 3rd Avenue South,” explained WPS Chief Jamie Blunden.  

Two people were brought into custody during the execution of the warrant – a 30-year-old woman and a 36-year-old woman. Both are charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking as well as trafficking. One of the women is also facing a weapons charge, as police say she had a weapon on her at the time of the arrest. 

Blunden advised that there was a quantity of meth as well as fentanyl seized during the execution of the warrant.  

The street was re-opened to traffic shortly before 2:30 p.m.
