It's something the City of Weyburn has been looking forward to for a while.

A new lagoon for the city is in the works.

Director of Engineering for the City of Weyburn Blaine Frank says the reason for the new lagoon is because the old lagoon is under-sized for our population and there was a lot of sludge build up on the bottom.

The new lagoon will be out of the city by about 7 or 8 miles and should be able to hold our capacity for the next 25 years.

The contract for the new lagoon was $4.8 million and awarded to a firm from Saskatoon called Sask-Con.

Frank hopes construction is completed by fall and operational by winter.
