For the first time in four years, the Weyburn Crocus Quilters Guild held their Spring Bouquet of Quilts Show this past weekend at the Weyburn Curling Rink.
Along with featured quilters Eileen Wright and Eva Ziehl, over two hundred quilts from quilters throughout the community were on display.
The show opened up at 4:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, and the anticipation for the show was so much that there was a lineup when the doors opened, said Jill Thorn with the Guild.
“It’s been fairly steady both days,” Thorn added. “I don’t know numbers yet but I think it’s fairly comparable to the last quilt show.”
Eileen Wright was one of the featured quilters this year. She started teaching quilting in 1998, and has published two books on the subject – Twist-and-turn Bargello Quilts and More Twist-and-Turn Bargello Quilts.
The other featured quilter at the show this year was Eva Ziehl. A longtime member of the Weyburn Crocus Quilters Guild, she does a lot of work with hand embroidery, and can’t even guess as to the number of hours that she puts in to each quilt that she makes.
The turnout for the show, both those with quilts on display and those coming in to admire the intricate artwork, was strong, and considered a success for the organizers. Thorn pointed out that with the way things have been over the past two years, they were happy things went as they did.
“We didn’t know if it would be possible to have it, but as it got closer and closer, and we thought yes, it’s a go, we are very happy to see all the people coming out.”
