The City of Weyburn is hosting a Bronze Cross re-certification course this Sunday at the Weyburn Leisure Centre.

"If they currently have their assistant lifeguard or if they are a lifeguard and haven't taken the national lifeguard transfer re-cert yet, this Sunday we are offering at the Leisure Centre, we're offering these courses and these are the last courses that we'll be offering until the New Year," said Tina Clay, Program Manager with the City of Weyburn.

She said you can register at the Leisure Centre, or they can register on the City of Weyburn's online booking portal.

"In the New Year as well, registration for our Swim for Life instructor course is going to be the first week of January, so if anybody is wanting to teach swimming lessons, that's when they would register for that as well."

Registration for the 2023 winter swimming lessons and aqua fitness classes begins December 13th but will be posted this Thursday.

"So whether your child is taking swimming lessons before or not, you should check out the Leisure Guide on our website, and it will provide you with guidance on registration for the Swim for Life program," she explained. "It will say if you completed this level in Red Cross, this is what level you should register for in Swim for Life."

She said the program is broken down into three sections.

"There's the parent and tot, which there are three levels to that. The preschool, which are five levels for that, and then the swimmer levels, there's six levels, and for the Red Cross program you'll be used to the swim kids levels one to 10, this goes swim kids one to six. So with the higher levels being a Rookie Ranger Star Patrol. So those are more leadership courses that don't get offered as often. However, we do encourage everybody to look at the guide to see what level they should be registered in those parent classes are for six months to three years. The preschools are for three to five years old and the swimmers are for 6 to 12 years old."
