Certified lifeguards, assistant lifeguards, and water safety instructors are being reminded that the Red Cross water safety program is ending at the end of this year.

This means they will have to transfer over to the Lifesaving Society Program to remain certified.

“Anyone who has a Red Cross ALG, LG, or WSI certificate will have to transfer over by December 31st,” Program Manager with the City, Tina Clay said. “If they don't actually transfer by then, all of their certificates with the Red Cross become null and void, and they'll have to start over with the lifesaving society programs.”

Anyone with a Red Cross assistant lifeguard certificate can sign up for the Lifesaving Society bronze cross recertification. It will be held on October 16th from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Weyburn Leisure Centre. Another Lifesaving Society bronze cross recertification will be held at the end of November, as well as a national lifeguard recertification.
