It was a busy weekend at the rodeo grounds in Weyburn. Over a hundred cowboys and cowgirls took part in the first stop of the Saskatchewan High School Rodeo season.

Over the course of the two days, the participants took part in various events, including the breakaway roping, tie-down roping, barrel racing, steer wrestling, team roping and more. The results of the events helped each one earn points towards the championships, which will be held later this year.

After the opening weekend, a number of competitors from the Weyburn area found themselves in good shape in the overall standings.

Lake Alma’s Kaci Storle is 5th in the Junior Girls rankings, with Adison Warren from Tyan in 8th. Right behind Warren is Tyra Kmita in 9th, while Pangman’s Callie Andersen is 13th. Midale’s Kylie Rasmuson is 15th, and Weyburn’s Vonni Schira is 22nd.

On the Junior Boys side, Tyvan’s Davis Young is currently 4th.

Over on the Senior side, Carlyle’s Ashley Weber is 5th among the Senior Girls, while Lake Alma’s Daylee Storle is 10th. Auryn Schira is 15th, and Ceylon’s Gracie Hillrud is 20th. Ember Schira is 24th, and Daylynn Olliver is 25th.
