Saskatchewan’s 15U Field Lacrosse Team was successful at Nationals over the Weekend in Fredericton, New Brunswick, bringing home the bronze medal.

Weyburn’s own Ryder Hignett, a Defensive Midfielder, was on the team.

“We started out really good, we started 3-0, beating every team by over 10 points,” Hignett said. “And then we ran into two very tough teams, Ontario and BC, who we knew were going to be good coming in, but we kind of got whooped up on by them.”

Hignett added they were able to redeemed themselves against Quebec.

“The next morning, we had our last game which was against Quebec and we won by a pretty close margin, and then in the bronze medal game we whooped up on Quebec and beat them by 11.”

Hignett enjoyed his time and Nationals and wants to return next year.

“This is some of the most fun I've ever had playing lacrosse, and I've been playing lacrosse for a very long time. The people there and the corporation are really good and they're doing a good job. The boys that I played with were amazing and great characters and I'm looking forward to coming back.”

Hignett said the team practiced in Saskatoon and Regina, and he practiced with teammates from Weyburn on his own time as well.
