Saskatchewan construction rates are on the rise.

The province led amongst all others in residential construction growth and overall construction growth in 2007 according to a new report issued by Statistics Canada.

Premier Brad Wall says this is good news for the province and means we have to continue to keep up with this growth avoiding the problems like they are having in Alberta.

Wall adds our momentum continues and we continue to be on a roll.

Overall construction growth in the province of Saskatchewan rose 42 percent in the past year while residential construction growth was up by an astonishing 74 percent.

In comparison, Newfoundland and Labrador had the second highest increase in residential with just under 30 percent in growth.

In December alone, the total value of building permits hit a record high of 217 million, an increase of 83 percent over November and the largest month over month increase of any province in Canada.
