While September 19th has been proclaimed a Day in Tribute and Commemoration of the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by the Government of Saskatchewan, this doesn't mean it's a statutory holiday for everyone.

Keith Keating, the Director Of Education With The Southeast Cornerstone Public School Division, confirmed classes that day will be going as scheduled.

"It was a federally-proclaimed holiday, so it's up to the individual provinces then to determine whether or not it will be a statutory holiday," he said.

While this coming Monday won't be a holiday at the provincial level, September 30th will be.

"This year, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we put that as a school holiday," Keating said, noting that last year's declaration of this day was given with too short of notice to give the day off at the schools.

"So that day was actually put into a different day of the school year, so there's the same number of school days. We simply shifted this school day off of that day in recognition of National Truth and Reconciliation Day."
