The local live entertainment scene this year has returned to close to what it was before the spring of 2020, with not only more live music taking place at local pubs, but also with more opportunities to be showcased than ever before in Weyburn.

The Weyburn Legion has created a talent competition, 'Weyburn, You've Got Talent!', the winning act of which will receive a $500 cash prize and the chance to perform at the Legion Oktoberfest on October 15th. The deadline for the competition has been extended, as it happens, to September 10th.

“We are always looking for some kind of a fundraiser that's just a little bit different, and we wanted to involve the public, which is part of our mandate here,” said Secretary Manager of the Legion, Debbie Kater. “We're looking for anybody that's got Any kind of talent. Our only requirement is the stage is not huge, so it'll have to be something that can be performed here at the Legion.”

The Weyburn Communithon will also be held at the Legion, on October 29th, with a plan for a return to all in-person, live performances all throughout the annual telethon.

“We can have the full audience back in in the Legion, and (we’re) just going back to our roots and having everybody there in person," said Communithon Board Chair Korryn Kubashek. "You need live performers, and you need the audience in there, and it's just an amazing event to have and it showcases so much local talent.”

While the Communithon isn't hosting a competition, they have put out their call for performers a little earlier this year to ensure they have their full line-up of talent.

“Normally we wait until the end of summer and do it, but this year we're going to try a little bit earlier.”
