The annual Weyburn Wheat Festival is coming up at the end of the week and there's a lot going on.

As usual, Heritage Village Days will be a big part of the event and this year they are trying something new.

"We are doing a treasure hunt of sorts this year," explained tour coordinator Drew Paquette. "Kind of an incentive to go through the buildings. There's going to be clues that lead you to different artifacts and then you kind of have to figure out what the artifact is based on the clue that we're giving you and then if you make it through all the buildings and you can find all the clues then you can get entered to win a prize."

Heritage house tours and pioneer demonstrations will be held both days, Friday and Saturday. They will even have a return of the sheep herding demo after a few years hiatus, according to Paquette.

She said volunteers are still being sought to watch over the houses during the two-day event.

"We do still need a few people to help us out with filling those last time slots for our houses. To have them open all day we do need to have people sitting inside of them, obviously, and just making sure nothing goes missing and helping the public, of course, if they have any questions or something like that."

Live entertainment will be taking place at Heritage Village on both days of the event. Local entertainers James Dion, Lyndsay Bell, De Tricky Feet Dance Studio, and Karrissa Hoffart perform on Friday. On Saturday, Kirstin Pfeifer and Alfredo Aguiar perform.

Wheat Festival events are taking place throughout the city. There's a movie in the park at Jubilee Park, a pie baking contest and family fun day at the Soo Line Historical Museum, a horticultural showcase at Knox Hall, Crocus 80's play at the Tommy Douglas Centre, and the Party on the Hill craft show at Signal Hill Arts Centre.
