The Saskatchewan Lacrosse Association kicked off provincials weekend in Prince Albert Thursday with the U13 A, U15 A and U17 A tournaments. Weyburn was well-represented in the three tournaments, with several players on the rosters of the South Sask Stealth teams.

In the U13 event, the Stealth, whose roster included players such as Weyburn’s Ryder Stepp, Cohen Baumgartner and Julie Labrecque, played the Regina Barracudas in the semi-finals. The Barracudas would come out on top in that game, winning 12-5.

This put the Stealth into the bronze medal game, where they played the Saskatoon SWAT. The Stealth would score five goals in the first period and then held on for a 7-5 victory win clinch the gold medal. Weyburn’s Julie Labrecque would finish the game with a pair of assists.

The U15 tournament would see the Stealth opening up against the Northern Predators. The goals would come early and often, and when the final buzzer sounded, the Stealth had a 13-2 victory. Quinton Stinson from Weyburn would get the win in goal. Meanwhile, Maddox Mohan had a goal and an assist, and Chayse Willoughby added a goal as well, with Leo Missal and Shiloh Mickler adding assists.

The win advanced the Stealth to the championship game, where they played the Saskatoon SWAT. The game would be tied 1-1 after the first period, but then six goals from the Stealth would put them ahead for a 7-3 victory. Chayse Willoughby was the lone Weyburn player to record a point. Quinton Stinson would get the win in goal.

In the U17 championships, the Stealth had a bye to the finals after finishing the regular season in first place. They would face the Saskatoon SWAT, and overtime would be needed. It would end, though, with the Stealth picking up a 4-3 victory. Weyburn’s Brody Morrice and Alex Labrecque were on the roster for the Stealth but were held off the scoresheet in the win.

The house provincials start Friday in Prince Albert.

The U13 Weyburn Security Thrashers open the tournament against the Saskatoon Hurricanes, while the U13 Young’s Equipment Thrashers take on the Prince Albert Smokey Rivermen. Meanwhile, the U15 Weyburn Thrashers will play the Melfort Wings.
