The City of Weyburn is offering to help keep kids busy at the Spark Centre for the eight weeks of summer holidays from school. The Spark Centre Summer Camp will run in July and August from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.

Leisure Services Manager with the City of Weyburn, Ryan Dale, said it's for ages six to 11, and the programming will be split between arts and sports and recreation.

“Each week we'll have its own theme,” he noted. “”We're really excited to offer a couple of new themes this year, one being science week and the other one being 'All About Me'.”

He said during the 'All About Me' week, for example, they'll be doing clay portraits, family puppets and mixed media creations that will encourage kids to learn more about themselves.

“Registration for that opens up on May 16th at 8:00 a.m. I do suggest being ready to go, as last year was a very, very popular program.”

In fact, the spots fill up quickly so Dale advises being logged in in advance to the booking portal. While two more spaces were added to the program this year, there are still only 22, so space is limited.

“We recommend everyone goes through XPLOR recreation, through our registration portal, and I do encourage everyone to make accounts ahead of time if you haven't already. They filled up, I believe, in a couple of hours last year.”

Dale said it's a compliment to our programmers, who “put on an amazing program for these kids, so we just want to continue and build off of all that.”
