Weyburn RM Reeve Norm McFadden attended his first in-person SARM Convention last week.

The event, which took place in Regina, began on Tuesday, March 15, and wrapped up on Thursday, March 17.

McFadden was happy with how the event went.

“It was a really enjoyed it, it was so nice to see so many people together with no masks and I think that was my first real sense that you know what we are almost there back to normal.”

Premier Scott Moe made a few announcements at the event, including that he would call on the federal government to designate rail service as an essential service.

“With the backlog we've had with groceries, and all goods I mean, it’s not great timing for a rail line strike for sure, I don't know if there is ever is good timing for a strike of that magnitude. I mean, the longer this strike goes on the longer it takes for that to get cleared up and that affects every single one of us.”

McFadden said that he learned a lot at the event that he hopes to adopt in the RM of Weyburn. He added that he is looking forward to the next convention.
