The ongoing dispute with tariffs between Canada and the United States is having an impact across the country, including here in southeast Saskatchewan. With Canadian steel and aluminum exports to the U.S. being targeted with tariffs, companies such as Tremcar West are feeling the pinch.

“I can tell you that all of the conflict between Ottawa and Washington about the tariff, that’s a huge challenge for our company,” explained Jacques Tremblay. His company manufactures tank trailers. “Every day, we ship new trailers to the States, year-round,” he added.

The tariffs have been having impacts on the company, but Tremblay said he is confident things will start to change after upcoming U.S. elections.

“In my mind, I hope, that after this November’s elections, in Washington, maybe things should be a bit easier.”

Tremcar announced last week they are expanding their facilities in Weyburn to allow for the production of high-pressure propane tank trailers. The expansion is expected to create 15 new jobs in the community.
