The efforts spearheaded by a Weyburn man to help provide new televisions for patients at the Weyburn General Hospital continue.

First launched back in December, Dean Stock’s fundraiser is working its way toward its goal. While things have slowed down a little bit over Christmas, they are expected to pick up again as they get closer to the halfway mark of their goal.

“We’ve got roughly $2300 sitting in our account right now, and we’re hoping for a goal of about $6500,” Stock updated.

Stock is looking to raise the money for 22 stands, and 22 TVs. The stands would need to be mobile, to make it easier to move from room to room as needed. The cost for the stands is expected to be about $2000, however, the televisions may end up costing a little more than originally expected.

“The TVs, I thought, would only be about $3000, but it turned out they’re going to be a little more than that, so we kind of upped the budget to 6500, which we figure should take care of everything,” he explained.

The idea for the fundraiser came about during Stock’s job. As a technician with Access Communications, he was setting up TV services in a patient’s room, and while he was there, he was asked if he would be able to look at another TV that wasn’t working.

The analog signal that was used for cable is no longer available in Weyburn – all the signals from Access are now digital – which meant the older televisions wouldn’t necessarily work properly anymore. He asked around about televisions and found out there was a very limited number available. He checked with the hospital as to how many would be needed, and went from there.

Those who want to make a donation to the fundraiser can do so through two methods. One is in person at the Weyburn Credit Union. The other way is to make a donation via e-Transfer. The email address for that is weyburnhospitaltvfund@outlook.com
