Convicted murderer Colin Thatcher has turned over $5,000 in profits from his controversial book to the Provincial Government.

The province also received a copy of a letter to his publisher ordering all future royalties be forwarded to the government. The Government passed the Profits of Criminal Notoriety Act last year, which prohibits criminals from making money off of their crime stories.

Thatcher challenged the law in court, arguing that it did not apply to his book "Final Appeal: Anatomy of a Frame", but was unsuccessful. Thatcher, a former provincial Cabinet Minister, spent 22 years in prison for the murder of his ex-wife JoAnn Wilson in 1983.
