A continual rotation of pulse crops mixed in with other crops can make your fields healthier and increase yields.

Gary Martenson is the Plant Science Instructor at the University of Manitoba.

Martenson says by breaking a cycle of disease and pests if you grow wheat after wheat, you will get only 90% of the average yield but if you add a pulse crop you will average 108% on your yield.

Martenson adds pulse crops bring nitrogen to the soil, reducing the need to purchase fertilizer nitrogen.
