A traffic stop in the early hours of last Thursday morning resulting in an impaired driving charge for a man who also had alcohol in his vehicle.

Police Chief Jamie Blunden with the Weyburn Police Service said the incident occurred at 2:30 a.m.

"That traffic stop led to him exhibiting signs of impairment by alcohol, so he was actually arrested for that and then brought back to our station where he ended up registering 190 milligrams and 170 milligrams, where the reasonable level that we allow before it becomes criminal as 80 percent. So he was well over the double the limit."

The man was charged with impaired driving as well as unlawfully having alcohol in a vehicle. He was released with an upcoming court date, and his vehicle was impounded for a period of 60 days due to an alcohol concentration of more than twice the legal limit.
