The U15 AA Whitecap Gold Wings took to the road on the weekend, travelling to Battleford for a pair of games against the Northwest Sharks. The Gold Wings were looking to pick up some key points as they look to improve their standings heading into the playoffs, and they would come away with two.

In the game Saturday, the teams would go back and forth, but ultimately it would be the Gold Wings coming out on top as they skated to a 3-2 victory.

The Gold Wings would take the early lead in the game when Charlotte Kosior scored just 1:02 into the first period. Her goal was assisted by Sierra Bauman. The Sharks would answer back before the end of the opening 20 minutes, though, as Sarah McNabb replied while shorthanded with 1:32 to play in the period.

In the second, Addison Greve would give the lead back to the Gold Wings when she found the back of the net just 40 seconds into the frame. Her tally was assisted by Rayna Hennie.

In the third, the Gold Wings added to the lead as Ella Schenher tallied on the power play. Her goal, which was unassisted, would stand as the game-winner, as the Sharks would get a power play goal of their own just over a minute later as Kadence O’Brian scored.

Sunday afternoon, the two teams met again but this time it would be the Sharks coming out on top.

McNabb scored her second goal of the weekend on the power play at the 4:21 mark of the first period, then Breanna Booy would score another goal with 2:11 to play, making it 2-0 Sharks after 20 minutes.

In the second period, Madden Rublee would add to the lead at the 9:02 mark, then Zayda Summach scored with 22 seconds to play.

Faced with a 4-0 deficit, the Gold Wings threw everything they could at the Sharks goal in an effort to mount a comeback. They would get some success, coming in the form of a pair of power play goals.

The first was just 3:48 into the period when Schenher scored her second of the weekend, assisted by Greve. Then, Adison Warren would find the twine with 2:06 remaining in the game. Her goal was assisted by Schenher.

The Gold Wings, though, weren’t able to complete the comeback, falling 4-2.

The next game on the schedule for the U15 AA Gold Wings will be Tuesday night when they host Prairie Storm at Crescent Point Place.
